The exhibition “TRANSPARENCY – Contemporary Glass from Austria” at the Kunsthaus Köflach presents a wide-ranging cross-section of contemporary glass art. The artistic positions of the group exhibition illustrate with the works they show how versatile the material glass is in art. From sculptures and objects, to installations, to glass painting and two-dimensional wall objects, various artistic approaches to glass are opened.

The works in the exhibition enter into a dialogue with each other, in which similarities and differences in artistic practices become visible. Different methods and processes, such as the melting, shaping and polishing of glass, can be experienced in the exhibition, as well as the fundamental ambiguity of glass as a material in contemporary art.

The exhibition title “TRANSPARENCY” thus refers not only to a classic feature of glass, but also to the attempt to present as many different artistic approaches as possible with this exhibition at the Kunsthaus Köflach on how glass can become a work of art.

In addition to a concise insight into contemporary Austrian glass art, the focus of the exhibition is on a kind of “transparent” view of the diverse artistic practice of glassblowing/working with glass, of the creation process of the work, and of the methods and processes used in contemporary glass art.

In this way, the exhibition develops an exploration of the potentials of glass as a material of art. The individual works tell us very different stories, sometimes in poetic confrontations, other times crystal clear or transparent.
